Your Co. Internet Address

Registering your company for its own Internet "domain name" is an essential prerequisite for establishing your company on the Internet.
This is one of the first things that GPS Internet Marketing will do for you

Domain Names

Establishing your own domain name serves several purposes:
  • first of all it requisitions that name for your sole use

[ If your company name is part of your branding then it is in your interests to register that name as your Internet address, such names are reserved on a first-come first-served basis ]

  • it allows you to be contacted via the medium of e-mail

  • it allows you to establish a web site for which your registered company Internet name is the key to finding

Internet Addresses

Internet addresses, to the uninitiated, can appear both totally confusing and daunting. However, with a little bit of experience it is soon possible to notice that, by and large, there is a logical approach to their structure

Most Internet addresses follow a similar structure, and the things to look for are the "@" sign and "http://" or "www.", each mean specific things:

@ - anything with an @ sign is an e-mail address

http:// or www- anything with one or both of these character groups is an address on the World Wide Web; an address to a web site.

Any organisation or company with a registered domain can use both of the above, i.e. can have e-mail addresses and have a corporate web site

E-mail Addresses

Most e-mail addresses conform
to the following structure:
username@organisation.type.code (all lowercase, no spaces)

i.e. webmaster@gpsinternet.com
john@mycompany.co.uk

The "type.code" suffix mentioned above can take several forms:
  .com a company / business
    .co.uk a UK company / business
    .org a non-profit making organisation
.gov a government dept or agency
.net a company running a large network
    .ac.uk university (UK)

It should be noted that something like "company.com" and "company.co.uk" does not necessarily refer to companies that are non-UK-based and UK-based respectively. The Internet is a global marketplace and the naming conventions are for guidance only. Many UK companies have to chosen to register as a global "company.com" to no detriment to themselves or their customers

Whatever your domain name requirements or preferences we will be happy to take care of the paper work for you

RealName™

If all that wasn't confusing enough there's an emerging naming protocol that will revolutionise the naming procedures for the World Wide Web. It is called RealName™ and has come into being to simplify the "public face" of Internet names

The RealName system was borne out of the desire to make addresses to web sites much more user friendly, such that

standard web address:

http://www.marksandspencer.com

becomes RealName:

"Marks and Spencer"

an alternative which is much more understandable for one and all

The RealName™ convention is set to become the public face of Internet names whilst the old style of address sits quietly in the background and conducts business at its normal frenetic pace, unworried by the rise of this young pretender! The truth is, that their coexistence is essential for the smooth operation of the whole process

top of page GPS Internet Marketing will secure both standard domain name and RealName registration for our customers, thus maximising the potential benefits of both systems to our customers
